    Vodacom announces new “uChoose” Contracts

Today Vodacom launched their new uChoose Smart plans, inviting customers to create their own plan by combining the flexibility of monthly payments and the  spend control of prepay. You can tailor the Vodacom uChoose plan with as many of the daily or monthly value added services, similiar to current prepaid offerings.

Just like on prepaid, the user is always in control with uChoose – if you use all of your airtime, you can simply recharge to add more minutes or more megs of internet. In addition, you can use the new flexible recharge options so you never risk running out of airtime. Express recharge allows you to instantly recharge from your credit card while Airtime Advance gives you access to a R10 loan that you pay back later. Or you can simply buy any airtime voucher from your local Vodacom (or retail) outlet.

Vodacom’s Chief Commercial Officer, Phil Patel said: “Our new uChoose plans are designed to put customers in control. Contract plans that act exactly like prepay – they are all in one plans that are perfect for your smart phone, with easy payment options as well as the latest pre-pay innovations and value added services on a top up plan. Our new plans are very simple, no more on-net and off-net limitations. They are simple and easy to understand and offer amazing value.”

Having been let down twice this year by Vodacom admin blunders and by their continued terrible data signal, I will make my “uChoose” choice by switching to another service provider next year.

this is more of a one size fits all approach by vodacom which doesnt appeal at all. Users dont want to be constrained by number of minutes/sms/data. Most users would prefer more data and less SMS along with fixed number of minutes. Why Vodacom feels it must offer a product that covers all 3 is beyond me.

How flexible is this really when you would still be confined to the similar plan they had previously. This does not look new except increasing the dying capacity of their sms channel. Come on Vodacom you can do much better than that
