Vodacom has launched two App competitions to give local developers the opportunity to showcase their talent.
The first of these contests is the 2013 Vodafone AppStar Ideas Challenge that gives developers that have innovative ideas for apps a chance to submit them and stand a chance to win smartphone devices. The idea contest is uniquely designed to capture new consumer ideas that can drive mobile application innovation.
The AppStar Challenge is a two stage contest which has a local and international leg. In the local challenge, the top three finalists will be rewarded for developing innovative apps. The top two local finalists will also get an opportunity to compete against international participants from other competing countries (South Africa, Kenya, India, Egypt & Tanzania).
AppStar Challenge entries must be linked to one or more of the following areas: health, education, local entertainment, games and utilities, and run on either Android or Java.
The competition starts on the 19th September 2013 and the closing date for App submissions is on the 25th October 2013.
Among other prizes, the top two local finalists will be flown to Nairobi to participate in the final on the 11th December 2013.
