A purported leak of Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy S8 Active shows off a device that retains an Infinity Display while ditching edge panels.
Samsung’s Galaxy S Active models have usually arrived with a simple premise; drop sex appeal and double down on durability. Thing is, the South Korean company has set itself a hard challenge with the debut of the sexy Galaxy S8, and now new leaks have shown off what the Galaxy S8 Active could look like.
9to5 Google reports that new images posted on Reddit give a close indication of what the Galaxy S8 Active could look like; pictured is a device that, while keeping Samsung’s Infinity Display, ditches edge panels for thicker side bezels.
The end look is somewhere between ‘budget display’ and ‘durable contender’, and should offer consumers a far more rigid smartphone thanks to the presence of a hard-plastic rear chassis instead of glass.
In terms of specs, the Galaxy S8 Active is expected to carry many of the same internals found aboard the standard Galaxy S8; including a Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, save for the debut of a larger 4,000mAh battery.
In an interesting tidbit, Galaxy S Active handsets have typically included their own, re-mappable convenience key – though it appears the Galaxy S8 Active will sport a specific key locked to Bixby instead.
It remains to be seen whether Samsung will opt to launch the Galaxy S8 Active on the international stage, and just how the handset will tie into the impending launch of the Galaxy Note 8.
