Samsung is reportedly prepping its own answer to Apple’s AirPods, with Bixby in tow

A new report has asserted that Samsung is developing its own take on Apple’s AirPods, which will apparently leverage Bixby as an AI assistant.

Apple’s AirPods – despite their very late arrival on the market – have enjoyed critical favour; and now a new report has suggested that Samsung is rapidly developing its own answer to the product.

Korean-language Etnews has claimed that Samsung is apparently throwing its energy behind the production of a set of wireless, Bluetooth-enabled in-ear headphones as a result of backtracking on its plans to develop a Bixby-powered speaker.

The eventual product, which is as yet unnamed, would apparently leverage Bixby’s newly-launched Voice suite where Apple’s AirPods are reliant on Siri to facilitate requests.

Interestingly, Etnews speculates that Samsung is mulling including such a product with the launch of the Galaxy Note 8, which has now been scheduled for the latter half of August this year – leaving Samsung little time to formalise its plans.

The move might echo Samsung’s release plans with the Galaxy S8, wherein the company bundled a premium set of AKG headphones with the handset valued at some $99 USD.

Should the company wish to rapidly scale up its plans, it could serve to repurpose its Gear IconX headset which it debuted last year; the product, somewhat similarly to the AirPods, leverages a wireless connection to deliver sound to one’s ears. Distinct from the AirPods, however, the Gear IconX buds have onboard storage of 4GB for music playback.
