Looking for a new adventure? This app will help you quit your job

Are you bored with your job? Are you suffering from intense wanderlust? Does everyday feel like it‘s a blue Monday? Well, if this is the case, it probably means it time for a chance, and obviously, a new job. The only thing standing in your way? Quitting.

But, just as there is an app for almost anything these days, the newly launched Quit Your Job app will do exactly that – help you part ways with your employer.

Launched recently for iPhone, the app is very straight forward and easy to use. By simply following a few steps, it will break the news to your boss (or whomever you choose to tell).

Firstly, it asks you to select your reason for quitting. The reasons are stereotypical; you want to leave the corporate world, make more money etc. Except with this app, its all a little tongue-in-cheek.

After you‘ve chosen your reason for quitting, it then asks you what your follow-up plans are. This isn‘t the step where you write a long, heartfelt essay about your dream to become a movie star, no. It only gives you a few (mostly fictional) options to choose from; think running for senate etc.

The third step is the final nail in your coffin. This is where the app sends a thoughtful, heartfelt, (yet dripping with sarcasm) text message, informing people about your decision.

However, you choose who you want to tell. Naturally, you can chose to send it to your boss, but you can also select your partner of your friend.

Once everything is done and you‘ve sent that text message, feeling full of valour while also being terrified inside, the app does you a favour by linking you to a recruitment site , where you can search open positions based on your user profile and career goals.

And, of course, it also gives you the option to share your latest life adjustment on Facebook or Twitter. Just so you can keep your followers in the loop, too.

Quit Your Job was developed by job-matching site, The Ladders. This is the same company that created Break Up Text – another app that basically follows the same principle.

Although Quit Your Job is meant to be funny, it is by no means not for real. Alex Douzet, CEO and co-founder of The Ladders, hopes that the app will actually take off:

“In an age when nearly everything can be done from the convenience of your Smartphone, we thought job resignation was an area that needed some attention… [sic] on a serious note, while the recruitment industry has been slow to adopt mobile technology ““ years behind other industries ““ one in three job searches are being conducted on a mobile device.“

While we all know that you won‘t be able to escape the inevitable awkwardness of telling your boss you‘re leaving face to face, the app, in its own way, makes it a little easier. Even if it puts a smile on your face during a pretty scary time.
