Instagram’s Stories features has officially surpassed Snapchat, smashing through a record 250 million daily active users.
Mark Zuckerberg will sleep well tonight; Instagram’s Stories feature has officially surpassed Snapchat – rocketing through an enormous count of 250 million daily users.
Instagram’s Stories feature has seen impressive growth since its introduction; the feature is undoubtedly Facebook’s darling in-amongst its own Stories feature, Messenger Day, and WhatsApp Status. Instagram Stories surpassed 200 million daily active users as of two months ago, while Snapchat recorded 166 million daily active users in the month of May.
The news comes after the app first amassed some 150 million daily active Stories users this year, marking enormous growth for the platform. The app already services some 700 million users, and – unsurprisingly – Facebook is now looking to further monetize the platform.
Facebook’s Global Head of Sales, Carolyn Everson, commented that “If you think about it a year ago when we sat together, Instagram Stories didn’t exist… Today on the platform, we not only have 250 million people using it, but actually a third (of the most viewed stories) are businesses using Instagram Stories and one million are advertisers.”
Everson highlighted the fact that Stories appears ripe for business, indicating that brands may soon leverage the platform more extensively.
The news that Instagram Stories’ daily active user base has surpassed that of Snapchat has seen Snap Inc’s shares to plummet down by 3% on the stock market, even though the company has announced new features such as Custom Stories and even the recently-introduced Snap Map.
