Alphabet will make CEO Sundar Pichai the best paid CEO in the US, making him worth $650 million USD to hang around for the next 3 years.
After momentarily overtaking Apple as the largest company in the world two week ago, Alphabet isn’t shy to reward their executives in accomplishing this feat. A company SEC filing has revealed that Sundar Pichai received the equivalent of $199 million USD in stock earlier in February, giving him a total $650 million USD stake in Alphabet.
He won’t be able to cash in all at once though. The shares will vest in quarterly phases through 2019. But who cares? That is still a lot of money for around 3 years worth of work! Just to compare Pichai’s salary with Tim Cook’s (CEO of Apple), Cook “only” got $376.2 million when he assumed the CEO role.
Interestingly however Pichai isn’t the wealthiest person in Alphabet. A report from the Guardian explained that Larry Page and Sergey Brin are both worth about $34 billion; ex-CEO Eric Schmidt has about $3 billion in stock. Pichai’s deal however indicates that Alphabet is determined to keep him around for the long term, especially when rivals like Facebook can afford to poach him.
Anyway, let me get back to my day job 🙁
