19-pin connector confirmed for new iPhone

The new iPhone will have a 19-pin connector according to a report by Tech Crunch who has independently verified that Apple will be moving away from its current 30-pin port for its next smartphone.

The 30-pin port has come standard across Apple devices since it was introduced with the iPod in 2003.

Rumours had already been circulating about the arrival of a new pin port, partially shown in leaked images of the new device on mobilefun.co.uk, that is similar in size to the Thunderbolt port available on many MacBook devices.

This latest ‘confirmation’ follows a previously leaked image from 9t05 Mac that also showcased a new smaller dock connector while at the time not making it clear what type of connection this might be.

While this rumour may not in fact turn out to be true when the much anticipated follow up to the iPhone 4S is eventually launched, the evidence received from multiple sources, is certainly beginning to mount.
