HTC sold the new Nexus 9 at 50% discount a day after launch

The new nexus models are here and every Android purist just can’t wait to get their hands on the new devices. Coupled with the fact that the Nexus devices are in high demand and that new products are rarely sold at a discount it came as a BIG surprise that HTC announced a 50% off sale on the new Nexus 9 yesterday (while stocks lasted). Yip, just one day after the Nexus 9 launched in the US. The company quickly sold through a limited quantity of 16GB Nexus 9 tablets for $199 “” half off the regular $399 price you’d pay at Google Play or Best Buy.

Of course the deal sold out in a matter of minutes but other buyers saved $50 on either the 16GB or 32GB model while stock remained briefly available. The big sale was obviously a marketing stunt and formed part of HTC’s annual “Hot Deals” promotion. The promotion will happen every Tuesday (starting yesterday) and will continue for 9 weeks which covers the whole holiday season in the US. Unfortunately the promotion is only open to US buyers, you will have to have an insider to get in on the action.

A lot of early adopters were left quite angry at this deal at we still have to find out what Google has to say about this promotion. For anyone that hadn’t bought one yet, well, there was no better time than yesterday. For $200, HTC’s Nexus 9 is one heck of a product. The whole promotion could be seen as a bit of a desperate move to gain customers by HTC and I bet Google wouldn’t approve of the way in which it was handled.

On the other hand, for those lucky few who got their hands on a 50% of Nexus 9 are smiling all they way. I wish sales such as these could come to our shores.
