The name may not ring a bell, as we don‘t see their devices in SA, but Xiaomi is actually one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in the world. They are Chinese, and have been selling smartphones in their millions.
CES 2015 is over, but we are already looking forward to Mobile World Congress in a couple of months‘ time, as we can expect some interesting devices being released there. One of these is probably going to be the new phone from Xiaomi, which they have teased to Chinese media, but we may be seeing another devices sooner. By the looks of things, the manufacturer may be trying to raise the stakes when it comes to producing stunningly thin handsets.
The first teaser reveals plans to launch a new phone on January 15th. As you can see from the pic above, the finger placement suggests a very slim construction, and the phone is playfully being referred to as “œthin as cicada‘s wings.“
It remains to be seen how thin it will actually be, but as we all know, the thinner a device is the less hardware you can fit in. According to reports, the device will have a meagre 2000 mAh battery. The rest of the rumoured specs are relatively mid-tier, such as a Snapdragon 615 and 2GB of RAM.
Specs are not the interesting part here, though. We were never fans of the “œthinner is better“ mantra, but they are becoming so thin we want to see how far they can push the technology.
