Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi Mix 2; a sequel to last year’s near bezel-less effort that brings refined performance enhancements and a new processor.
Last year’s Xiaomi Mi Mix was an early revelation as to how near bezel-less design would shape some of 2017’s best flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, LG V30, and forthcoming iPhone X – and now Xiaomi has returned with a follow-up effort in the form of the Mi Mix 2.
The Mi Mix 2 is a fairly iterative foray for Xiaomi – doubling down on the design that debuted last year with a 6″ diagonal display and a large 18:9 aspect ratio (up from 17:9, last year), the handset instead opts to refine its performance chops with the addition of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 835 SoC and the presence of 6GB of RAM.
Underneath the hood lies a 3,400mAh battery and storage up to 256GB, while the handset adopts a single 12-megapixel primary and 5-megapixel camera setup.
The Mi Mix 2 now accommodates an earpiece directly above its primary display – a change from last year, where the original Mi Mix debuted with a piezoelectric speaker.
The handset’s rear panel is once again fashioned out of ceramic, which Xiaomi claims is more durable this time around – a Mi Mix Special Edition will circulate, wherein the handset will sport a unibody chassis carved entirely out of ceramic.
The device will further accommodate a wide range of wireless bands – meaning that there’s a great chance that the Chinese brand might bring the handset to wider audiences beyond that of its home territory. The device is set to retail for $506 USD for a 64GB model, $552 USD for a 128GB model, and $613 USD for a 256GB offering.
