    Vodacom unveils the Smart Platinum 7 and Smart Ultra 7

    Vodacom has launched six new Android-based devices, chief among them the headlining Smart Platinum 7 and Smart Ultra 7.

    Fresh from release abroad, Vodacom has brought a series of six new Android smartphones to South Africa; namely the Smart Prime 7, Smart Mini 7, the Smart Kicka 2, Smart Tab 2 3G, and premium Smart Platinum 7 and Smart Ultra 7.

    Speaking on the release of self-branded Vodacom devices, Zunaid Mahomed, the company’s managing executive, stated that “œVodacom is now able to offer devices not only in the entry-level smartphone and tablet category, but also in the premium mobile class as well.”

    The devices will ship alongside a three year warranty, while the flagship Smart Platinum 7 will feature a bundled virtual reality headset, named the Vodafone Smart VR.

    Working up the range, Vodacom’s Smart Kicka 2 will retail for R499 ZAR.

    Vodacom has yet to announce what specifications power the sequel to the original Smart Kicka, though it is anticipated that the Smart Kicka 2 – should it fly under the same banner as the Vodafone Smart First 7, which it was branded as overseas – could carry a Speadtrum A7 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage expandable through a MicroSD card, and a 1,400mAh battery.

    The Smart Kicka 2 will retain for R499 ZAR.

    Smart Tab 2 3G

    With a retail price set at R999 ZAR, The Smart Tab 2 is anticipated to carry a MediaTek A7 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage expandable through MicroSD support, and a 2,580mAh battery.

    The Smart Tab 2 3G will retail for R999 ZAR, and will be available on contract for R79 ZAR per month.

    The Smart Mini 7, anticipated to retail at R699 ZAR, would accommodate 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage expandable through MicroSD support, a 1,500mAh battery, and a 2-megapixel and VGA selfie camera split.

    The Smart Mini 7 will retail for R699 ZAR.

    Smart Prime 7

    The Smart Prime 7 ups the ante with a larger 720p display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage expandable through MicroSD support, and a 2,540 battery. An 8 and 5-megapixel camera split rounds out the package.

    The Smart Prime 7 will retail for R1,799 ZAR, and will be available on contract for R129 ZAR per month.

    Smart Ultra 7

    Vodacom begins to edge into higher-end territory with the Smart Ultra 7, which bears a 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage expandable through MicroSD support, and a 2,960mAh battery. The Smart Ultra 7 will include a 13 and 5-megapixel camera split.

    The Smart Ultra 7 will retail for R3,199 ZAR, and will be available on contract for R249 ZAR per month.

    The top-of-the-range Smart Platinum 7 arrives with a 5.5″ 1440p AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage expandable through MicroSD support, a 3,000mAh battery, and a 16 and 8-megapixel camera split. The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 652 processor.

    The Smart Platinum 7 will include the capability for 4K video recording and will sport a dedicated camera button.

    The device, which heads up the entire range, is slated to retail for R7999 ZAR, or will be available on contract for R399 ZAR per month.
