New, leaked renders have potentially outed the OnePlus 5T; a new handset bearing an edge-to-edge display with slimmer side bezels.
While OnePlus last treated us with the release of the OnePlus 5 as recently as June this year, the Chinese company may yet be preparing a follow-up handset in the form of the OnePlus 5T – a smartphone designed to tackle emerging trends in 2017’s stellar crop of flagship phones.
The device – pictured in an apparent leak by Android Authority and tipster Evan Blass – indicates that OnePlus may be preparing to re-use its ‘T’ moniker for more than just a spec bump.
Of course, OnePlus last released the 3T as a follow-up to the OnePlus 3; the minor upgrade debuted with the intent of using Qualcomm’s then-new Snapdragon 821 SoC, and kept the same form factor as its forerunner. This time, however, the firm seems to be headed in a different direction.
Leaked previews of the 5T indicate that OnePlus is destined to follow in Samsung’s footsteps with a wide edge-to-edge display, though the handset seems to lack any indication of a top-mounted sensor for either facial recognition or iris scanning.
It remains uncertain as to whether the device will accommodate a front-facing fingerprint scanner as its forerunners have, or whether it will seek to move its fingerprint scanner to its rear-facing panel.
In terms of other improvements, OnePlus has indicated that the 5T may see a significant camera overhaul.
We’ll be able to see just what the company’s plans are this November, where the firm is expected to host a special launch event around November 20th. While South African consumers can still purchase the OnePlus 3T through Takealot, it remains uncertain if the 5T will land on our shores.
