Maze, a new entrant in the smartphone market, has officially announced its presence alongside a new handset dubbed the Alpha.
It’s not every day that we see a new smartphone manufacturer dip its toes into the water, but today we’re fortunate; Maze, a new smartphone company centered in Shenzhen, China, has announced its presence with the tease of a new, near bezel-less smartphone.
To fans of Xiaomi, the device – dubbed the Alpha – might be reminiscent of last year’s biggest surprise, the Xiaomi Mi Mix. While Xiaomi’s near-bezeless bender released with only one primary camera, the Maze Alpha sports two.
Presently, there is little explanation as to whether Maze will proceed to head into international markets or whether it’ll decide to contest its local market in China. The company is cemented by two factories and teams for research and development, marketing, sales, and after-sales in Shenzhen, and further has a branch in Guizhou.
The company has revealed precious little about the Alpha, save for the fact that the device will sport 4th generation Gorilla Glass and will include Android 7.0 Nougat on board.
While we may never see Maze in South Africa, the company could well join the ranks of the successful Chinese elite such as Oppo, Huawei, and Xiaomi, which have cemented themselves as burgeoning successes in the international market; Huawei, for instance, has begun its first true campaign in the United States.
It remains to be seen whether Maze will be a success in the global smartphone market, though we’re grateful we’ve yet to hear another launch proposition as weird as the Turing Phone Cadenza late last year.
What are your thoughts? Can another Chinese entrant succeed in the market, or is the Maze Alpha too derivative of the Xiaomi Mi Mix?
