While Huawei’s Mate 9 has just begun to hit storefronts, the company’s next flagship – the P10 – has now leaked out in two new images.

If your wallet is still hankering after Huawei’s new Mate 9, we’ve got some bad news for you – you might well be in for double the trouble as the company’s follow-up to the P9, the P10, has now leaked out into the wild.

Two new images have revealed that Huawei’s P10 will continue with the design direction established by the P9 and will incorporate some improvements found on the Mate 9.

For example, the Leica-made dual-camera setup that we loved makes a return, while the device’s fingerprint reader will now be found on its front panel as opposed to its rear.

The leaked device, pictured in rose gold, visibly features a metal rear panel and tweaked antenna lines in the style of the iPhone 7. The device appears to have a far more rounded trim than its predecessor, which instead relied on a more rectangular design.

Specs-wise, the device reportedly will feature a 5.5″ QHD display which will be powered by a Kirin 960 Soc, rounded out by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

Huawei typically updates its two flagship series – the Mate and P line respectively – in a tick-tock cycle, leaving us to expect the device before the close of next year if not sooner.

The Huawei P9 will likely benefit from Huawei’s new software improvements which debuted on the Mate 9; machine learning will continually refine which apps are offered to a user and specific times of day, preventing the system from slowing down with age.

    • Why would they move the fingerprint sensor? The one on the back of the P9 is perfectly situated for one handed use. I just pick mine up and it unlocks. where it is on the image above will require a clumsy (to me anyway) thumb movement with loss of control over holding the device. The positioning of the fingerprint sensor is exactly what put me off the Samsung Galaxy S7 and made me opt for the Huawei P9 so I’m disappointed that Huawei are planning to put theirs in the same place.

      • I agree – I much prefer the flow of having a fingerprint scanner on the rear of a device. Personally, I think only Apple does front-mounted fingerprint scanners well given the fact that the Home button is intrinsically tied to navigating iOS – on Android, I prefer soft-touch or virtual buttons on the front and a fingerprint reader on the rear; it makes things a little easier to manage, and the trackpad gestures on some handsets are great.

Let’s hope this is an early prototype – that rear panel is a blank canvas just crying out for a fingerprint scanner…
