Huawei launches the Nova 2i, crams in four cameras

Huawei has launched the Nova 2i; a follow-up to the Nova 2 that sports four cameras; two front-facing, and two rear-facing units.

2017 may well be remembered for being the year when smartphone screens got taller and cameras multiplied, and Huawei’s latest effort, the Nova 2i, has taken developments to new proportions with the addition of four camera units and a FullView display.

The Nova 2i arrives with a 5.9″ 18:9 display with a FHD+ resolution – a suprising revelation considering that the company’s forthcoming Mate 10 was widely expected to be its first foray into the wide-screen displays that LG and Samsung have championed this year.

The device carries with it a Kirin 659 processor, 4GB of RAM, alongside 64GB of storage and a large 3,340mAh battery. As is classic for the range, the device carries with it a rear-facing fingerprint scanner.

The real show stopping factor of the handset may well be its four cameras; Huawei has equipped the Nova 2i with a rear-facing combo that’s constituted by a 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensor array, while the phone’s front-facing array is rounded out by a 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel duo.

The move expands into Huawei’s latest focus on portrait photography and depth-of-field effects – the handset’s primary selling point may well be sophisticated selfies through its front-facing array.

Of course, Alcatel was the first mobile firm to jump on the bandwagon earlier this year with the release of the Flash 2.

The Huawei Nova 2 never arrived on South African soil, and we’ll be sure to spread the word if we hear that the Nova 2i is inbound.
