We sat down with Bandwidth Blog general manager Bryan Smith to chat about his favourite moment in tech this year; the release of Microsoft’s Surface Book.
Bryan Smith: “2015 was a year of titans; manufacturers such as LG, Samsung and Apple brought out the big guns in some of the most fierce competition in the arena we’ve yet seen. However, I believe this has awakened a sleeping giant few expected to see again; Microsoft.
While most of us expected to see a follow up to the Surface Pro 3, fewer of us could have imagined that the Redmond company would have broken the mould to introduce a brand new premium product; the Surface Book.
The Surface Book speaks to Microsoft’s new strategy in a multitude of ways; concentrating on device quality instead of quantity, developing a new ecosystem under Windows 10, and re-defining how we perceive product categories such as mobile phones, tablets, and in particular, laptops.
The reveal of the Surface Book, to me, was Microsoft’s clarion call; announcing that it has entered the battlefield anew. Whether the Surface Book will prove to be a long-term competitor is anyone’s guess, but by judging pre-order sales, I believe Microsoft is well on its way to a great resurgence.”
