WhatsApp has begun testing a new feature on Windows 10 Mobile which would allow users to inform their contacts of their new mobile number.
When getting a new mobile number, many of us simply create a new WhatsApp profile rather than use the system’s ability to transfer an account between numbers.
In a potential bid to make it easier for users to switch accounts, WhatsApp has unveiled a new beta update on Windows 10 Mobile which would enable users to inform their contacts of their new number.
The update, found within the app’s Settings pane under Change Number, enables users to toggle a simple switch reading ‘notify contacts’. When this is done, users can specify that their contacts be informed should their mobile number change.
The update is a nifty solution which would feasibly make porting between mobile networks or obtaining a new number a far easier endeavour. Users will be able to specify whether all their contacts should receive a notification, or limit the alert to just the contacts with which they have an active chat.
The feature, which is disabled by default, also gives the option for users to specify that they’d rather not have any of their WhatsApp contacts informed about their change in mobile number – a great solution if, for example, you wanted to drop off the grid entirely.
The feature is presently found on the latest beta version of WhatsApp aboard Windows 10 Mobile, and has not made its way to either iOS or Android at the time of writing.
