Planet of the Apps – Apple’s first TV show centering around a ‘Dragon’s Den’ pitching process – has now released its first episode, which is free to watch.
Apple has had the zany idea to not launch just one television series in 2017, but two – beyond the rebooted Carpool Karaoke series headed by James Corden, the Cupertino company’s second production, Planet of the Apps, has now premiered.
In a bid to entice viewers to subscribe to Apple Music, the premiere episode of the season is now available to watch for free on the series’ official website or in Apple Music. Thereafter, Apple Music subscribers will be able to watch the remaining nine episodes as they premiere weekly on Tuesdays.
The series sees budding app entrepreneurs perform a literal escalator pitch (yes, there is an actual escalator involved) to actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, musician Will.i.am, and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk.
Similar to Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank, contestants arrive with the view of persuading any number of the judges to work with them and flesh out their app concept into a successful business. Should more than judge express their interest, the pitching entrepreneur shall have their pick of the litter in choosing a business partner.
The debut of the series marks one of Apple’s most overt commitments to content yet; previously, the company has developed music videos and graphic material for artists willing to spearhead Apple Music.
