Forbes: Case-makers show off more iPhone 8 design details

A new report by Gordon Kelly of Forbes reveals new, apparent design details surrounding the iPhone 8, showcasing the handset’s edge-to-edge display.

Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 8 (or iPhone Edition) has widely been tipped to include an edge-to-edge display, and now a new report by Gordon Kelly of Forbes has given a closer look at what could be the finalized design of the handset.

Kelly cites his partnership with luxury case maker Nodus as key in investigating Apple’s supply chain to extrapolate just what the next iPhone could look like; and now finalized renders have revealed a 5.8″ design that’s more screen than metal at the front.

According to Kelly, the iPhone 8 will indeed accommodate an edge-to-edge display ensconced by 4mm bezels on the top, bottom, and sides. The handset will apparently persist in using a Lightning jack – though the device may come with a USB Type-C cable and compatible wall jack – and, unsurprisingly, won’t feature a headphone jack.

In its place, the iPhone 8 will seemingly carry twin stereo speakers and an amplified earpiece, and will ship with a larger power button than previous iPhones have had.

The latter is apparently due to the fact that Apple had planned to leverage a larger power button as a fallback for TouchID – somewhat alike Sony’s Xperia models – and no final word has yet been given on whether the Cupertino company has succeeded in integrating a fingerprint scanner beneath the iPhone’s display.

Kelly further reports that the iPhone 8 will feature a vertically-aligned rear-facing camera, though he expects it will largely follow the fashion of Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus, which includes one standard and one telephoto lens.

Perhaps the most saddening tidbit Kelly provides is the fact that the iPhone 8 will apparently retail from $1,100 USD for a 128GB model, while a premium 256GB variant will sell for some $1,200 USD.

What are your thoughts? Would you be prepared to splurge on Apple’s premium handset if it indeed looked as Kelly’s renders indicate? Be sure to let us know your opinion in the comments below!
