Rumours suggest a new iPhone SE in August, but could that really happen?

A new source has alleged that Apple is preparing to launch a new iPhone SE this August, despite analysts advocating the contrary.

When dealing with rumours in the mobile tech scene, analysts and leakers usually work in tandem to flesh out the better details of a forthcoming smartphone. However, that isn’t the case with a new rumour that alleges that Apple is developing a new iPhone SE.

MacRumors cites Mickael Bazoge, a French blogger who asserts that – thanks to a tip off from a supply-chain source – Apple is developing a new iPhone SE model that would debut in August.

Previously, respected KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that it would be unlikely for Apple to revisit the iPhone SE given its predilection for its standard and Plus-sized models, in addition to its potential development of the iPhone 8 or iPhone Edition.

The iPhone SE was introduced under the guise of bringing modern processing power to a ‘classic’ form factor, and filled the vacant 4″ smartphone gap Apple’s present lineup expresses.

It has previously been rumoured that Apple has considered the development of an iPhone 6 SE, though the company has traditionally let its elder handset depreciate in value to entice consumers seeking to buy into the brand on a budget.

A future iPhone SE would likely warrant a change in form factor, given the fact that Apple’s iOS is increasingly reliant on the prevalence of 3D Touch; something that the now dated 4″ form factor of the present iPhone SE would not support without further revision.
