Apple has released the first trailer for Carpool Karaoke: The Series, which is based on the segment from The Late Late Show with James Corden.
In July 2016, Apple purchased the rights to Carpool Karaoke – a segment of The Late Late Show with James Corden which was produced by James Corden, Ben Winston, and Eric Pankowski – as part of a bid to advertise Apple Music.
Now the Cupertino Company has released the first trailer for its own production of Carpool Karaoke, which will continue the spirit of the show as it first premiered on the Late Late Show.
Apple’s Carpool Karaoke will feature 16 celebrity pairings “riding along in a car together as they sing tunes from their personal playlists” and “surprise fans who don’t expect to see big stars belting out tunes one lane over.”
The series, according to Apple, will feature celebrities such as James Corden, Will Smith, Billy Eichner, Metallica, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Ariana Grande, Seth MacFarlane, Chelsea Handler, Blake Shelton, Michael Strahan, John Cena, Shaquille O’Neal, and will feature a different host in every episode.
Apple has clarified that its own production of the series will operate in a half-hour format, and will be driven by interviews as opposed to shorter clips of guests singing.
The company’s foray into television production comes hot on the heels of a short segment from Apple in September 2016, in which CEO Tim Cook joined James Corden and Pharrell Williams.
Apple is further beginning to execute its own content, having already produced original videos for Apple Music artists in addition to its forthcoming series, Planet of the Apps.
