Apple has officially joined Instagram in a new campaign wherein the Cupertino giant will share curated images and videos captured by iPhone users.
For years, Apple has made Twitter its darling – between dedicated support and Apple Music accounts, the company even inadvertently leaked the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus on the platform minutes ahead of launch. Now, the company has expanded its social media footprint by hopping on the Instagram bandwagon.
Apple yesterday launched its official Instagram account, wherein the company has begun its journey into the world of filters and hashtags by offering up a curated selection of imagery and videos captured by iPhone users as part of its Shot on iPhone series.
According to Mashable, Apple plans to use the account for nothing other than this purpose, and has no plans to share any overt marketing campaigns on the platform.
In a move that will likely set budding Instagram stars salivating, Apple has offered users the opportunity to have their images featured on the account should they tag any of their images with the hashtag #ShotoniPhone. Given that Apple has managed to rack up some 307,000 followers at the time of writing with no help, that leaves a wide potential for budding photographers to have their work featured on the platform.
The bid marks a change of pace for Apple, which traditionally has been slow to get on board with social media; the company has used its Facebook and Twitter presences to funnel ads in the recent past, while the firm’s Apple Music accounts feature highlights from popular and emerging artists.
